LISTENING and MOVEMENT

Summer is coming… School will be over soon! Time for kids to go out to play, bike and run.

Read more what experts say about physical activity and cognitive functions.

“ Clearly, catching a ball involves the brains motor function. But making a mental calculation does too…mounting evidence shows that movement is crucial to every other brain function, including memory, emotion, language, and learning…but “higher brain functions have evolved from movement and still depend on it”

“Neurologist are finding evidence that the cerebellum which coordinates physical movement, also coordinates the movement of thoughts”

“The brain circuits used to order, sequence, and time a mental act are the same ones used to order, sequence and time a physical act”

Excerpt from: John J Ratey M.D.  A Users Guide To The Brain

Just as a reminder, the cerebellum is very much connected with the vestibular system of the inner ear which controls balance, awareness of space and movement in space, and which is very much involved in ocular movements of the eyes in tracking and reading.

From that perspective, the Summer vacation is not just a break from school, it is the best preparation for the brain to be ready to go back to school and learn effectively
